Death Of Monculture

One of the most under-discussed areas within society is the death of the mono-culture and the power of personalised and FYP feeds.

Yes, we have experienced it for the last six years, however, I often have this conversation with business leaders, when coaching CMOs and speaking with friends and family members.

What you see and experience in a feed is now so different to what the person who sits next to you or the person you have very similar interests to, the expectations we will see the same content is low and when we think something is viral it has been shared in so many group chats thats the only time you will see the same video clip, interview or post.

In this (video below) New York Times interview series from mid-December you will see a number of traditional media members (journalists), the new media with Ben Shapiro and Jon Favreau (from crooked media), Charlamagne Tha God and comedian, actor and podcaster Andrew Schulz. Watch from 38 minutes to understand the difference between new media and traditional media and how Social Networks created this situation (rightly or wrongly) with content feeds curated for you.

If you prefer a shorter form with an example of mainstream movies and why no one knows why no-one knows a former blockbuster is out, Andrew Schulz and Dana White (UFC president) discuss this and show why Marketing can be so hard, but catering for your media to be consumed in the way the fans want to consume is the only way forward.
